Where Madonnas meet


Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden) organizes two exhibitions in honor of the 500th anniversary of the masterpiece of his collection - "Sistine Madonna" by Raphael. The first one, "Heaven is magnificent. Raphael, Dürer and Grünewald painted the Madonna," appears in the Picture Gallery of Old Masters on September 6.I. It will be a meeting of two paintings by Raphael - "Sistine Madonna" and written in the same year, "the Madonna of Foligno," which left the Vatican for the first time. In total, the exhibition will demonstrate the order of 20 pieces - paintings, drawings, prints, books, documents and sketches, including the only surviving sketch for the "Madonna of Foligno" in the British Museum.

Raphael masterpiece complemented by two images of the Madonna of the Italian masters like - for example, Correggio, and Garofalo, and German artists - Albrecht Durer, Lucas Cranach, Matthias Grunewald. At the next exhibition, "500 years of iconic works by Raphael," opening May 26, 2012, show brought out the world's major museums collection of works by Raphael and his separate section of the exhibition will be dedicated to the famous angel (Putti), located at the bottom of the canvas. For five centuries they have become so popular that their way of familiar even to those who have never seen the whole picture.m
